Three Dorset based players have been contracted to train as part of ‘Team Bath Futures’ Programme”. Jaimee Browne, Jessamy Baker and Skyla Erskine, from Weymouth Junior Netball Club endured a rigorous screening process at Exeter University and Team Bath University Sports Village where they proved themselves as potential national athletes amongst over 250 athletes on trial.
Weymouth coach Kelly Browne was quick to recognise their potential and has been nurturing their talent for the past three years.
She said: “Each one of the players has the natural physical make-up so often needed to trigger the skill required for elite sport. Couple this with their determination to develop and you have the formula to tap into higher level opportunities.
“Team Bath Netball have a long-standing history of developing young netballers into Superleague and international players and those in charge at Team Bath confirm their unwavering commitment to helping people achieve their full potential.
“The players will train within the Netball Futures Pathway, ensuring that talented netballers from across the south west get access to the Blue and Gold family and learn from the outstanding coaches.”
Netball Dorset director of performance, Linda Cutler congratulated the past county players on securing places at the Team Bath Netball Hub at Bryanston School and to be coached by former Team Bath stalwart and England International Jo Vann, enabling local players to feature within the national framework on a weekly basis.
Jaimee, Jessamy and Skyla will be housed within the Dorset Hub (one of four across the region), which will deliver top-class coaching plus lifestyle and sports science support to the 20 players aged 14-21 chosen at each hub from across the south west region.
To kick-start them in readiness for their start, Nick Bell from New Body Fitness, a gym already sponsoring local netball, has jumped at the chance to widen his support to these talented players by providing them with gym membership and conditioning advice.
