Avon Netball’s 2017/18 season was brought to a conclusion for the local divisions at their AGM last month, when the awards for nominated players, runners up and winners within each division were presented to the successful teams and players. A new addition to this year’s list of trophies was the Fair Play Award in memory of Kim Sullivan, who played for Crossbow Netball Club for many years and sadly passed away earlier in the season.
Kim was known and loved throughout the Avon and Netball South West community during her time both on and off the court.
Representing Avon at both junior and senior levels, many will remember Kim as a friendly and bubbly centre court player who played the majority of her netball within the first team, competing in the Avon League before being invited to play in the NSW regional league. Kim put her heart and soul into Crossbow who were her netball family, and fulfilled many roles over the years such as Junior Coach, Chairperson and President. She continued to support the club when she could no longer step out onto the court, and was well respected for her words of wisdom, calming nature and warm welcoming personality.
The deserving recipients of this new accolade were Newbridge Ninjas, who finished second in division 10 and have therefore gained promotion next season. They have been praised for their helpfulness, sportsmanship and ability and willingness to support others. Newbridge have been extremely supportive of new players joining their club throughout the season, including running their training sessions jointly as a Back to Netball session, England Netball’s nation initiative to get women back into playing the sport.
The efforts of Newbridge Ninjas in terms of their attitude towards fair play deserves to be recognised and made them worthy winners of the inaugural Fair Play Award. Kim’s husband, Marc Sullivan, attended the Avon AGM to present Newbridge Ninja’s their award.
