Bristol Active City have recently released their Exceptional Contribution list, recognising community heroes and local legends who have made an outstanding contribution to community sport and physical activity, giving their time to enable others to get involved.
Netball South West’s Sue Anderson – Netball Coach, Captain of Airborne Netball Club and Back to Netball Area Coordinator – was one of those listed.
Read below to hear her story…
“I have always been involved in sport and played in both the netball and rounders teams at school. When I left school I started to play handball and went to Germany with our team to play over there. Following that I got married and had 3 children so team sport was difficult for a while so I attended fitness sessions instead. Then one day my sister asked me to play for her netball team as she was short and I have never looked back.
Since then I have become a Level 2 Netball Coach and a “B” Award Umpire. I run Airborne Netball Club that has 3 Senior and 4 Junior teams. I have worked for Ashton Park School going into schools and coaching primary school children, then six years ago I was blessed and got a job with England Netball to get ladies back into netball. It is a dream job and the thousands of ladies I have met has been unbelievable. They are truly inspirational.
One of Airborne’s biggest achievements was getting into the Guinness Book of World records for playing Netball continuously for 56 hours, it was one of the best feelings ever, as part of this we raised £10,000 for 2 charities: Bristol Children’s Hospital and Cancer Research.”
