Walk of the town
During an Active Ageing Forum hosted by Active Gloucestershire, the Gloucestershire NDO connected with the University of the Third Age (Cirencester) Chairman, Liz Dancer.
Liz was brimming with enthusiasm for Walking Netball and thought it would work really well with her members. After some initial conversations, we set up a pilot six week programme with a neighbouring NDO who was available to host the sessions.
Week one arrived and we had a phenomenal 22 ladies turn up! Four months on, weekly sessions have continued and the ladies have even progressed to also running two sessions per month at the local leisure centre with a full sized netball court.
At the end of the summer they entered a local Walking Netball Festival which they thoroughly enjoyed and got a real taste of competition.
Three ladies are all set to go on a Walking Netball Training course to ensure the sustainability of the club. They have secured funding from the Phoenix Group to go towards their host training costs.
Cirencester U3A really are the walk of the town.
