Farewell to two of the South West team

On behalf of Netball South West, we’d like to wish both Sam (Regional Coordinator) and Amy (Somerset Netball Development Officer) farewell and express our huge thanks for all their hard work over the years. Amy is finishing tomorrow and Sam on Friday at lunchtime. Sam is off to the Lawn Tennis Association to work in the competitions team and Amy is re-locating to Liverpool. Sam’s role is currently out to advert (https://www.englandnetball.co.uk/work-for-us/england-netball-opportunities-4/south-west-regional-co-ordinator/) and Amy’s will be early in the new year. Best of luck both, you’ll be sorely missed.

We love a Christmas jumper!

Netball South West President

Netball South West are delighted to announce the appointment of Denise May MBE as NSW President.

Denise has a lifelong passion for netball, firstly playing for Lancashire County and the north of England and then representing the South of England for 12 years and being a part of the first senior Cornwall County squad. In addition to this Denise has been a Junior County netball coach and set up and ran Bude Junior Netball Club.

Denise set up her own charity, Community Action Through Sport, which recognised, promoted and rewarded young people for making a positive contribution to their own communities and were awarded numerous national accolades for its work.

2007 saw the first visit to Ethiopia leading to the introduction and vision of netball and its development as a national sport. Denise worked tirelessly with contacts in Ethiopia to further these aspirations. This led to strong links with Netball South West in their invaluable support through funding, resources and sharing the passion for netball development in Ethiopia. After numerous trips to Ethiopia and the continued support of Netball South West, Netball has now been recognised by the Ethiopian Government and is now receiving development funding.

Denise was awarded an MBE for services to education and sport in 2010 and in 2012 she carried the Olympic torch on the very first day the flame arrived in the UK.

On her appointment, Denise said that she was honoured to be asked to be President and would be delighted to represent Netball South West in the future.
